![]() The actors and the camera got on in Toulon. That’s off the coast of the Villa Roccabella near Toulon. Where did that scenic boat ride with Cora and Robert take place? It’s a lovely area, great fish, great Mediterranean traditional food. In fact, where Cora, Robert, and Monsieur Mondrez walked, if you keep going from there, there’s a beautiful restaurant. Were there any shops or cafes that you did frequent-any souvenir spots you might recommend? You might be disappointed if you go to Martigues and there’s no hat shop. Carson’s hat shop, which we built on a soundstage back in the U.K. ![]() We wanted to really give a punch of the Riviera-have it be typical Riviera. There’s a modern part to it as well, but that area where we were was very, very beautiful. There’s a line of beautiful wooden boats that actually do live there all the time. We had some other places, like Antibes and some other locations, but Martigues stood out beautifully. Simply Google ‘prettiest French fishing towns on the Riviera’…and this place comes up. Martigues is about an hour and a half beyond Marseille. Where is the quaint, seaside town where we see the Crawley's and staff meandering around? Although I think legally in France you can’t privately own a beach. That private beach where Tom and Lucy take a swim-that's a private beach? Or is it accessible to tourists? Although, it’s furnished with modern furniture. So it’s sort of a modern comfortable upstairs and rather traditional downstairs. One bedroom upstairs we actually used for Robert and Cora’s bedroom. If you can afford to stay there, it’s fantastic. There are lots of modern areas, sort of barbecue areas, there are outbuildings, and the gardens we explore, but the gardens are very extensive, and there’s lots of lovely terracing all the way down to a private beach, which you did see in the film. We had to clear out all their modern furniture when we emptied the house, which took about four days, and put our own furniture in.ĭo you have any insights for a traveler who might want to book a stay at Villa Roccabella? Anything we didn’t see on camera? It’s not near Nice and Saint Tropez and Monaco, but it’s a beautiful villa. It’s on the slightly unfashionable end of the Riviera.
